Betterment levy

In some cases, the municipality may charge a betterment levy to owners or other rights holders of a property (such as your home). This happens when you benefit from the development of a public facility. Examples include the construction of new roads or cycle paths. A few years ago, a common form of this levy was used to finance the installation of modern sewer systems in rural areas.
